The History of the Percheron
It's generally believed that the Percheron breed originated in the area of La Perche in Normandy, France. The horse was probably created for war, an animal strong enough to carry French knights into battle. The Percheron was also called upon to pull carriages for French royalty. The Percheron first came to the United States during the Civil War era and handled tasks ranging from farming to pulling carriages.
